Taking a moment to write a personal blog post. 🙂
Last Sunday, 6 Oct 13, my husband, brother, and I all ran our first 1/2 marathon!! It was extremely hard and by far the biggest physical challenge I’ve ever experience … and yes, that includes child birth! 😛
I was so lucky to have such an amazing support team with me. First of all, my amazing husband. When I signed us up, I put all 3 of us down the same time frame. I wanted to start together and then we could all run off and do our own thing. My husband is 6’4”, while I’m 5’4” … needless to say it’s very easy for him to out run me. Well, he didn’t. Not once. He ran with me the entire time. There was a point (mile 7, I believe) that I decided to stop, BIG MISTAKE. I never really recovered after that. I’d get a 1/4 mile in and then stop .. sometimes less. My legs felt like they weighed a million pounds. Everything hurt. I was moving at an 11:40 pace, and yet he stayed with me. <3
My amazing parents traveled down from MI to watch our daughter while we ran and to cheer us on. My mother has ALWAYS been ‘that Mom.’ You know, the one in the stands cheering so loud that everyone on the team knows that your mom has arrived. 😉 Alex and I may not be in high school anymore, but things haven’t changed. She was on the side lines, looking through the thousands of people, trying to find us, and cheering so loudly that I heard her before I actually saw her! My father took video and pictures for us … and of course lots of Abby snuggles.
I didn’t run in the time frame that I wanted too … but I did it. I finished a 1/2 marathon!! I learned a lot and now have a time to beat!! J and I finished in 2:34:53. I had been aiming for 2:20:00ish. On the one hand, I’m very happy with that time because I walked a lot and that’s still a respectable time. But on the other hand … how much better would my time have been if I hadn’t walked!?! It was so frustrating not to be able to pick up my legs and run … but like I said. I learned a lot, and know what I need to do for my next 1/2. 🙂
From the bottom of my heart, I couldn’t have done it without my family! I love them and am so grateful to have them in my corner!
Here are a few iPhone pictures from our adventure.
Hello old friend!
Umm … at least she’s keeping herself entertained?
We dragged her out of bed at 5a … by 2p, she had enough.
………. zzzzzzzzzz …………
Aaaaand it’s raining. At this point we’re praying for better weather!
Cleveland is an incredible city. Wish we could have stayed longer to explore!
Checked in and packet picked up!
It was torture to walk around and see so many great places for photos!
Breakfast is ready for early morning! And of course I was soooo nervous in the morning I couldn’t eat more than 1/4 of my sandwich. And at mile 8 I was starving!!!
Playing with new toys from Mimi.
4a … up an ready to head to the race. It’s soooo early. 😛
Hardest thing I’ve ever done .. but I’m a finisher!!
J made me do the ‘duck face.’ Seriously?
Me and my guys! My amazing brother has lost over 100lbs in the last 2 years!! Don’t tell him he can’t do something, he’ll prove you wrong every time.
True love … he could have left me and gotten a better time. But he stayed with me … the entire time. Even when I was crawling to finish, he was there.
It’s a long story, but we had an issue at the race. The amazing people at the Rock-n-Roll race gave us the VIP treatment until it was resolved. 🙂
Saw this guy on the way home … crazy!
After praying, we had AMAZING weather for the whole race. It was the perfect temp, clear skies, simply amazing. Until we started home … then the bad weather rolled in!
Ouchie … didn’t realize how badly running hurt! 😛
