Heart of it all Photography bio picture
  • Heartfelt Welcome!!

Hello! This is me! I started my photography business in Turkey. I had a love for photography and had some wonderful friends willing to sit in front of my lens while I learned more about my style of photography. I wanted something to watermark my images, so I went with the basic plan ... initials. m.j.c. photography.

To this day, I still like the simplicity of the name, but there are so many people with the same initials and already branded their photography in that way.

A few months back I attended a Shot Party in St. Louis. I heard 2 of my favorite photographers speak at this conference, Bobbi + Mike. They were awesome, just like I knew they would be. They spoke of making memories or heirlooms for people. That one day their client's great grand children would look back at their photography and see them as they were when they were young, free, in love ...

They didn't necessarily say something that I didn't already know, but they said it in a new way. In a way that just struck me ... this is ALL about the client. These pictures showcase the LOVE people have for each other. Whether they are engagement , a newborn baby , family pictures, senior pictures, it doesn't matter. The person (or people) in front of the lens is the HEART of a family.

I went home that night thinking ... and thought some more ...

Then I thought, the heart of it all ... is YOU!

I promise that when we're together for a photo shoot ... you're my family. We aren't going to just sit in front of the lens and smile. We are going to go out and have fun! We are going to pretend that you are in a reality TV show and YOU are the star. We're going to photograph you having fun with your family or significant other. We are going to have an amazing time together and make memories that you will keep forever.

Doda Family

Meet the Doda family. This sweet family has been through more than a family should have to … but they’re still smiling and love each other. That’s pretty perfect. <3

C Family

Meet the sweet Collette family. It was such an honor to meet with them and take a few pictures. Both Mommy and Daddy are Active Duty, how cool is that?  Right away felt very welcomed and it despite the gloomy rainy day, it was a cheery morning.  Nothing I love more than hanging out with a family who loves each other and enjoys each other’s company.

Patterson Family

Meet my friends, the Pattersons. 🙂

We were stationed together in Turkey and now (3 years later,) we’re neighbors!  They are the sweetest family and filled with so much love. The kids honestly like each other and get along so well. They were a dream to photograph.  Here are a ‘few’ of my favorite shots from our quick session. 🙂

Aren’t they the cutest group of kiddos?

‘Ashes, ashes, we all fall down!’ ……. and then Mr. Model poses. 😉

We had a little fun during our time together. 😉

This one makes my heart leap … beautiful family. <3

WARNING: If I take your family’s pictures, Mom and Dad have to pose for me. I have a thing for couples who are madly in love. <3

Beautiful Ballerina

Hi friends! It’s been a while! 🙂  I’m participating in a photography class / challenge and last month’s assignment was on focus and depth of field. I knew I wanted to do something a little more artsy, so I held a casting call for a ballerina / dancer.  I had so many Moms reach out to me. I’m seriously amazed by the dedication not only dancers, but dancer Moms have … it’s not just the dancer’s dream.  Kayleigh’s mother reached out to me and after hearing a little about her, knew she was the girl for the job.

Kayleigh was my first ballerina and she did not disappoint. She has such a passion for dancing, it was overwhelming. I seriously could have photographed her all day. I was absolutely blown away by her talent, smile, and laugh. We tried a few ‘serious’ poses but we’d look at each other and start laughing. She was such a trooper, through the rain and mud, can’t wait to work with her again!

Simply STUNNING. I’m so in love with the contrast of the nature to the bold red and black! And, I am not even a red person. Beautiful images!

These are amazing. SHE is absolutely gorgeous. I love that your class gave you the opportunity to do something a little different than the norm. I can’t help but think her grandkids will see these someday and say, “LOOK! That was grandma!”
